Since 1940, Royal Paper Box Company has become a leading sheet-fed lithographer and manufacturer of folding cartons for custom packaging that is distributed around the world. Located east of Los Angeles in Montebello, California, Royal Paper Box Company is utilizing over 10 acres of manufacturing and warehousing, consisting of Die-Making, Printing, Foil Stamping, Die-Cutting, Gluing, and more. Additional sales offices with customer support are located in San Francisco.

The Structural CAD & Graphic Center offers the best in creative talent, pre-press expertise, and technical experience for designing and engineering custom packaging and product development.

Royal Paper Box Company was founded in 1940 by Clary Hodges and Harry Lourie. Together, the two young men recognized the opportunities in custom packaging, running a small folding box plant in Los Angeles, CA with about a dozen employees. With an aggressive spirit, the two men grew the company at a fast pace, moving to a larger facility on 61st Street in Los Angeles.

Once Harry Lourie retired in the 1950's, Clary Hodges reincorporated Royal Paper Box Company under his management. To satisfy the increase in volume and the expanding market for custom packaging, Royal purchased it's 1st Offset Printing Press, a 29" Miehle, in the early 1960's and later expanded to a 60,000 square foot facility in Montebello, California.

Years of effort and planning led Royal to expand the facility to a greater size, adding 40,000 square feet to the manufacturing facility in late 1970. Shortly thereafter, two adjacent parcels were acquired, giving Royal a total of 8-1/2 acres. Royal's growth at this time was primarily in three industries: pharmaceutical & biotech, consumer electronics, and hair care. Building a zero-tolerance philosophy in the entire organization, it was common for Royal to be first picked as a certified packaging supplier.

Achieving a reputation to be the highest in quality and outstanding in customer service with on-time deliveries, Royal's growth in the 80's and 90's brought new technology and state-of-the-art equipment along with skilled personnel, crafted experience, and a strong management team. Today, Royal Paper Box continues to reside in Montebello, California with an additional 172,000 square feet of building space.

Royal's manufacturing consists of a fully integrated production floor engineered to be fast, easy, and accurate with modern converting equipment and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Our leading six-color sheet-fed operation offers a variety of sheet sizes ranging from 29 inch to 50 inch with both waterbase and UV coating, and flexo capabilities. Optimal control of the printed sheet is achieved by our zero-defect quality controls and integration of the Printing Team with the CAD & Graphic Center, Direct-to-Plate Operation, and our Pre-Production Network.

Royal is equipped with a in-house Color Control & Ink Laboratory providing color accuracy using our networked spectral color matching system. Royal's Die-Cutting Department is equipped with five high-speed Bobst Die-Cutting Presses supported by an in-house steel rule die making and Structural CAD Operation. Five hot-stamping foil presses are readily available for specialty work. Our Finishing Operation carries nine high-speed fold-gluers and one windowing machine for quick turnarounds, meeting on-time delivery demands. Royal is proud to offer you a plant tour.

Steel Rule Die Making <TOP RETURN>

Once the packaging concept and prototyping is complete, Royal's in-house Die Making Department takes over, building permanent tooling for accurate reproduction. Each die board is a custom-designed tool optimized for fast makereadies, high-speed die cutting, and precision quality. Royal's veteran staff of die makers are making a difference with their problem-solving techniques, quality approach, and die cutting expertise.

Foil Hot Stamping <TOP RETURN>

Limitless in application, Royal has developed and engineered a foil hot stamping facility in-house, located on the corner of Main Street and Bobst Avenue. Adding a new dimension to the printed folding carton, Royal is putting five foil hot stamping presses to work that are capable of producing decorative specialty work consisting of tight-registered foil hot stamping, embossing, debossing, and combination stamping.
